Despite the doubts of my fellow coworkers, Duke and I managed to assemble a 1000 piece office chair from a box after the 11 year-old office chair took a dirt nap. @

One of the more interesting species we added to the inventory in the last few years is Black Limba.

This particular customer needed a 16 foot bar and the Black Limba lumber in stock was 13’ and 14’. He also wanted the bar top to look thicker than the 1�” lumber in stock.

Wirh a little bit of creativity and ingenuity, Chris sliced and diced and made it longer and added a 2” section along the front and sides to make it look thicker.

It is now with the customer who will install, sand and finish.

A few months ago, a Leland couple stopped in at their contractors suggestion and asked if there was something special that would add that finishing touch to their newly renovated home.

After looking through all the different species of wood, our clients picked Live Edge Ambrosia Maple, which is sustainably sourced here in S.E. North Carolina.

Over the course of several meetings we determined exactly what shapes and textures would meet their specifications and these are the just shelves and tops with a fresh coat of @rubiomonocoatusa.

Who are we? That's a big question, isn't it?

Chris Sargent (and, by extension, Leo), a friend and customer for years, joined Woodies Woodshop in January of 2023.

Always up for a challenge, unconventional but conventional, Chris is a force of nature, a whirlwind of creativity and vision and always in good humor.

Chris wrote this biography when he joined us:

"Grew up an army brat spending half childhood life in Germany.

Joined Navy at 17, and spent 10 years in. Worked on ships defensive weapon systems, and completed 3 Western Pacific tours during the 5 years at sea.

Worked as a field engineer for 8 years on automated clinical chemistry equipment. Spent 2 years on the road working all across the country

Quit everything in 2011 to go to various trade schools for 4 years. 2 years welding technology in Charlotte, and 2 years in CFCC’s boat building programs locally.

Spent 4 years as a dedicated boatwright. Spent 3 years in industrial maintenance. One year as Maintenance Supervisor for a medical facility.

Decided in 2022 to go full time back to carpentry/wooden boats/custom crafts."
